I’ve dedicated my life to using words to inspire others. (Yes, really. I left a cushy corporate job to spend more time writing things I love.) My mission is to help you build a successful business and show your leads the life-changing transformation your services have to offer.
I’d love to be the one who writes that story for you. But if that’s not something you’re ready for, I’m more than happy to share what I know so you can DIY your words with confidence.

Hi, I'm Val
If you’re treating your website’s About page like your resume, you’re missing out on an opportunity for meaningful connection. Get personal and create an experience for your leads with these fun ideas for your About page!
Your website’s About page should not look like your resume.
Yes, you are an expert at what you do and have done so much work to arrive at this point career. I want you to celebrate this because you’ve come a long way, put in so much time, and made so many sacrifices. And yes, your professional experience and education will help you attract leads.
But if you actually want to inspire people to see you as more than an expert and as someone they can invite into their life to create change, your credentials alone won’t cut it.
As human beings, we thrive on connection and relationships. Your About page is a place to make those genuine connections and foster those relationships. And it doesn’t have to be strictly business.
Once you’ve done the work to show your ideal client that you…
…you can also have some fun and help them get to know you as a person, too! Because it’s this information that can prompt someone to reach out and form a personal connection that can be nurtured and converted over time.
You love to listen to the Something Was Wrong podcast? Me too!
I have a corgi and can give you alllll the tips to help you prepare for getting yours!
ACOTAR is my favorite book series, too!
(Ahem. If you want to pop into my inbox or DMs and discuss any of the above, no copywriting talk whatsoever, feel FREE!)
But as we all know, writing about yourself can be hard. That’s why I’m sharing seven fun ideas for your About page to help your ideal client get to know you better and see you as a real person. (In addition to the expert service provider you are!)
What a great way to break the ice! Find a joke related to your industry that sheds light on your unique approach or shows your stance on a polarizing topic. Or one that represents your personality as a fun way to bring your readers into your world.
Any fun idea for your About page should also strategically support your business growth! Your website is for more than just attracting paying customers. It’s also a great tool to spark collaborations with other business owners.
Are there topics related to your industry that you could absolutely talk about all day? Maybe there’s an aspect of entrepreneurship that you really struggled with and found your own solution for that you can’t wait to get into the hands of others. Share 3-5 topics you’re comfortable chatting casually about or that you can turn into a training.
Help your business peers understand your expertise, see what you’re known for, and bring you in to speak to their people. Guest speaking is a great way to get in the room, find referral partners, and boost your visibility. And showing leads for your services that you frequently discuss these topics as an expert in your field is a huge trust-building tactic.
What better way to get to know someone than to take a peek into their listening history? Are you a true-crime junkie? History buff? Someone-else’s-relationship-drama addict? On a quest to live a healthier lifestyle? Share two or three of your personal favorite podcast episodes. This fun idea for your About page shows your reader another area of interest that you may have in common.
Business and entrepreneurship-related podcasts are great additions, too!
If you really want to interact with your community and talk to them about your mutual interests, extend an invitation! Add a CTA button next to information you’d like your reader’s feedback on, or add it to the bottom of your About page. No one will know your inbox is always open if you don’t tell them. And let me tell you—I’ve made some of my most meaningful connections in my inbox because I shared something fun about myself!
Call me biased, but I’m nosey and I want to know what you’re browsing and buying. Particularly if they’re cute and comfy WFH outfits. What better way to connect with your community than to let them into your online shopping addiction. Or if you don’t have one (unlike me), sharing what brings value and joy to your life is a fun way to make connections.
You share a lot more about your aura and personality over video than you do text. The sound of your voice, the way you speak, the enthusiasm you share…
Consider a short introductory video to say hello your visitors as one way to incorporate interactive and fun ideas on your About page!
If it makes sense and you feel comfortable, share some photos from your childhood or personal life to complement your copy! Got memories from the life story that inspired your brand or business? Have a beloved family pet? Photo of you doing your favorite hobby? Favorite vacation spot? Sharing what you look like in your element can re-inforce your passion, skills, and humanity to help foster deeper relationships. Something so important for marketing your personal brand!
